If you are an Instagram user, then you probably heard of ‘Link In Bio. Unless you are a verified account, the links you share on Instagram are not clickable (or in internet-speak – hyperlinked). The only place where you can create hyperlinks on Instagram are your ‘bio’ section, which is located the top of your profile page. Now, if you share a variety of content on Instagram, such as videos, promos, new releases, merchandise etc. this means that you have to regularly update your ‘bio’ section as it allows a single link at a time.
Especially for independent artists, this can be a major issue when it comes to promoting new material or merchandise, because it is really hard to get people to move outside Instagram platform. The app is basically an infinite flow or stream of photos from other users you follow, so people easily get distracted and do not necessarily follow the ‘call to action’. Long story short, for independent artists, the biggest challenge of Instagram is to direct people outside of the platform, so users have found a way around it by using ‘Link In Bio’ to create call to action – which in this case is to get people to listen their music on Spotify.
Having looked into the saturated market of ‘Link In Bio’ posts, Instagram and Spotify decided to collaborate to make everything easier for everyone. Now you can post your Spotify music to Instagram stories, with a clickable link ‘Play on Spotify’ right on your story!
In order to make use of this amazing new feature, I would I would like to explain how to link your Instagram Stories to Spotify in 4 steps! So, here is how to do it:
- Go to Spotify, and find the song you would like to share.
- Clickon the three dots/ellipses next to the song
- Click on Share and select Instagram Stories. This will direct you to Instagram and will open a new ‘story’.
- Edit your story and post it!
Keep in mind that, in order to use this feature you will need to update both Instagram and Spotify to the latest versions on mobile and desktop. This is a great feature as Instagram Stories have solid engagement rate and it has great potential to increase your streaming numbers – which is more revenue for you. So, get to share your music on Instagram and engage with your followers!
