How Can You Plan Your Big Release

With so much social media and streaming tools at our disposal, now it’s more important to set your release date and strategy for your music more than ever! Just like the old rule in marketing, the more buzz you create around your release, the bigger rewards you will reap.

In the case of music today, the buzz can be created in multiple forms, such as  streaming activity, blog mentions, social shares, etc. Long story short, the further your music will travel in a short amount of time, the bigger your rewards will be.

In this blog post, I would like to get into different ways you can make your big release even bigger.

1. Pre-Saves and Pre-Sales on Spotify and Apple Music

A high stream-count on the first day of your song release can be an indicator of success for your newest song or album on various streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music. Why is this important? Because in order to get placed in large playlists with thousands or millions of followers, you have to boost your first-day stream totals AND also be getting fans to save your song to their queue or library. With Spotify and Apple music pre-save campaigns you have the chance to demonstrate both quality and quantity this way. Pre-saves will spike your early streaming activity, which could attract the attention of Spotify’s algorithm and lead to playlist placements, Spotify radio placements, and more.

2) Submit your music directly to official Spotify playlists

Your songs will be delivered by your aggregator to Spotify (such as CDBaby or TuneCore) at least 7 days ahead of the release date. From here you can go into your Spotify for Artists account and just like this previous article suggests, you can submit that song to Spotify’s editorial team for playlist consideration.

3) Reach all your Spotify followers

One amazing thing about directly submitting to Spotify playlists is that you get guaranteed placement on all your Spotify followers’ Release Radar playlists on your release day (or the Friday that follows). This can create a domino effect in your favor, with more plays and listens generating more and more buzz in the Spotify-osphere!
